PG-43: Music

3. If I Knew Then What I Know Now

(PG-43)
Probably every Boomer has said at one time or another: "I wish I could go back to yesteryear and do (whatever) knowing what I know now." And, it's a good guess that all of us were told by some wise elder what we didn't know then, only to recognize that wisdom when it was too late. That is so common that it must be a fact of life. So, there's no sense stewing about it. Let's just sing about it and validate our feelings.
LYRICS

Live and learn, but learning takes a lifetime
And I'm too old to do what I've learned how
There's no telling how good I'd been when I was in my prime
If now were then and I knew then what I know now

If I just had one more chance to do it all again
I'd take to heart what my folks said to me
Listen to experience - You gotta give your dreams a chance
Don't make the same mistake that we made needlessly

Wisdom comes with age my daddy told me
But what's the use if it's not used somehow
Kids won't hear me talk the talk - like I would walk the walk
If now were then and I knew then what I know now

If I just had one more chance to do it all again I know I'd
Take to heart what my folks said to me
Listen to experience - You gotta give your dreams a chance
Don't make the same mistake that we made needlessly

Some will bask in all their fame and glory
While I'm just face lost in the crowd
A life beset by one regret would go so differently
If now were then and I knew then what I know now

If now were then and I knew then what I know now
